In Memory

Chardel Medley

Chardel Ann Medley, lovingly known as Charley, went peacefully to be with the Lord on her 69th birthday, December 29, 2021. We could almost hear the choir of angels singing her Happy Birthday and welcoming her home. She was born December 29, 1952 in San Antonio, Texas to Dale and Charlotte Medley.

Charley was our family’s prayer warrior, our angel here, and now in heaven. She loved to laugh and had her dad’s sense of humor. She always looked for the good in people and named it for them. Charley loved rocking out and singing along to her favorite 70s music and dominating at an on-going game of 'Padiddle’ (finding cars with only one headlight on, yelling 'Padiddle, first.)

Charley worked as a nurse at Shannon Memorial Hospital in San Angelo, TX, Amarillo, TX, and Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, and then was a private nurse for a special needs patient for many years.  She was a member of the choir in school, church, and Sweet Adelines Women’s Choir. Charley was a long-time committed member of Alcoholics Anonymous, Group 1825. She would support, share, and lead meetings.  While the path was not easy, she celebrated 18 years of sobriety.

She had an indelible spirit, a sharp mind, and a worn out body like so many of God’s messengers and saints.

She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Dale and Charlotte Medley.

She is survived by her siblings: Cheryl Medley Jarrett (spouse) Jim Jarrett, Melody Medley-Keith (spouse) Barker Keith II, Dale Robert Medley (spouse) Melissa Medley; nieces and nephews: Jason Jarrett (spouse) Jill,  Julianne Snape  (spouse) Jonathan, and Kaylyn; and great-nephews and great-niece: Corban, Eli, and Noelle.

A memorial service will be at Covenant United Methodist in Austin, Thursday, January 6th at 10:30 am.
