Johnny Callison

John Harold Callison, 70, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2024, in Granbury, Texas.

 

A memorial service celebrating John’s life will be held at 2 P.M., on Friday, January 10, 2024, at Martin’s Funeral Home, 100 S. Morgan Street, in Granbury. Burial will be private in Illinois.

 

John was born March 3, 1954, in San Angelo, Texas, to the late John T. Callison and Geraldine Haynes Callison. As a boy, he loved all the outdoor adventures on his Grandmother Callison's farm on the Concho River which has always been referred to as the historical Bismarck Farm which was known for growing crops in the 1800's to feed the Ft. Concho soldiers. John was well-known for being the star linebacker for San Angelo Central High School which led to a significant football scholarship offer from Annapolis Naval Academy. John attended West Texas State on a football scholarship.

In 1985, John married Linda Gaisford Wilcox in San Angelo. Through their 39 years of marriage, they have shared many interests of which include: following kids and grandkids sports, antiquing, regularly attending auctions, researching John's Texas ancestry, Linda's colonial ancestry, and meeting wonderful cousins found through their research!

 

John adored his 5 children; 13 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. He had a 45 year career in the grocery business. In addition to hobbies and past-times, his greatest joy came from the family activities through the years as the family continued to grow!

 

John's parents, brother, and sister pre-deceased him in death. Survivors are Michelle (Earl) Weber, Reid (Laura) Wilcox, Greg Wilcox, Brent Wilcox, Krista Callison, 13 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. He was a member of Sierra Vista United Methodist Church and Mansfield Methodist Church.
